Choosing A Hearing Aid

On your first visit to our office, our audiologist will ask you a series of questions having to do with your hearing loss and any difficulties you are having.  It is also nice to have any significant others with you who may be able to add their observations.  The hearing evaluation will consist of an otoscopic exam to look for any wax, inflammation or possible medical problems that may be contributing to a hearing loss, responding to various tones and repeating words.  After the evaluation is completed, the audiologist will review your test results, answer any questions that you may have and make appropriate recommendations.  If hearing aids are recommended, we will first discuss your individual needs.  Are you actively working and communicating with people throughout the day?  Do you attend large group situations, religious services or go out to noisy restaurants?  Do you have difficulty with quiet conversations?  Do you have any physical limitations such as vision or dexterity problems?

Once your individual needs are discussed, we will explain the various types of hearing aids that would be appropriate for you.  Although most hearing aids that are fit today are digital, the technology in them can differ greatly.  We will base our recommendations of how you answered the questions regarding your lifestyle and needs, any cosmetic concerns you may have as well as your financial situation.
